Fish farming and aquaculture is the world’s fastest growing sector within the food industry, providing nearly 50 percent of fish consumed globally and creating more than 5 million jobs worldwide.

Fraunhofer Application Center for System Technology (AST), Germany

The Fraunhofer Application Center System Technology AST develops innovative and application-oriented solutions for the power and water supply industries, researches on autonomous underwater vehicles and on the hardware and software design of embedded systems. In contract of small, medium-sized companies as well as major enterprises and public funders, the Fraunhofer AST develops on scientific basis several high performance applications, which are not only recognized at the industrial and scientific place in Germany but also internationally.

Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM), Germany 

Fraunhofer IZM’s Department of System Design and Integration develops methods and tools for technology oriented design of electronic systems. Its research establishes the scientific foundations for simulation of the electrical, magnetic, electromagnetic, as well as thermal and mechanical interactions and coupling phenomena throughout the development phase. Using the obtained results, comparisons of various technology solutions and parameter based analysis are performed. IZM will contribute their expertise in advanced sensing mechanism and fabrication technologies for smart sensors and intelligent wireless sensor network system for fish farming.

 

Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), Germany 

The Department Biology and Ecology of Fishes and the Department Ecophysiology and Aquaculture of IGB applying participate in the project have many years of experience in fish behavioural and physiological research, fish nutrition and reproduction as well as in aquaculture technology, lake and river fisheries, and water quality monitoring. The scientific publication record exemplifies the practical experience and scientific knowledge of the group members in fish biomonitoring systems and procedures.


Wageningen University (WUR), Netherland 

As one of the 92 chair groups, the Systems & Control Group of the Wageningen University has the following strategic mission: advancing the quality of life in a bio-based society by systematic studies on the dynamics of complex interactions in food, water and bio-based production systems for synthesis, control and design. The mission is realized via mathematical modeling, identification and model-based control studies for real-world applications. Major application fields are (waste) water treatment, biotechnology and food and agricultural engineering.


Institute of the Marine research (IMR), Norway

IMR has the role as Norwegian national advisor on questions regarding e.g. environmental effects of aquaculture and fjord ecology. In addition IMR participates in a range of EU and other international projects, and also contributes to international organizations such as ICES, EFARO, and committees, like IPCC. IMR also has long experience in Third World collaboration. With the China, IMR has had several collaboration projects, mainly in fisheries research, but also in aquaculture, and on environmental impact of aquaculture, such as long cooperation with YSFRI in FP5, FP6.

China Agricultural University (CAU), China

The China Agricultural University (CAU, www.cau.edu.cn), China-EU Center for Information & Communication Technologies in Agriculture (CICTA, www.cicta.cn) will contribute to the proposed project through its expertise in smart sensor & sensor network studies of water quality monitoring and modeling for fish farming, as well as by providing feedback on regional fish farm using both observational and model approache

Yellow Sea Fishery Research Institute (YSFRI), China

At the Yellow Sea Fishery Research Institute (http://ysfri.ac.cn), CAFS. The department of Mariculture Ecology (Fang J., Zhang, J., Mao, Y.), has strong expertise in mariculture and environmental monitoring, including in fish and shellfish behavioral and physiological research, fish nutrition and reproduction, especially in maricultre technique and mode. The group has extensive experiences in project of mariculture technology.
The institute will contribute to the proposed programme through its expertise in technologies for fish farming, water quality monitoring, diagnosis, early warning, automatic control and decision making for fish farm and fish grow model.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA

At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE, Ting, K. C., Rodríguez, L.), has strong expertise in systems informatics and analysis applied to bio-processing and bio-production. The ABE Department has developed a Concurrent Science, Engineering and Technology (ConSEnT) methodology for building systems informatics and analysis computational platforms.
University of Guelph (UOG)

University of Guelph (UOG), Canada
Advanced robotics and intelligent systems (ARIS) Laboratory of UOG (http://www.uoguelph.ca/~aris ) will contribute the proposed programme through its expertise in intelligent systems modeling and analysis, intelligent sensors and sensing technologies, wireless sensor networks, and intelligent control systems.
